Beauty in the Mundane: Week 42: Storytelling

During this week with family, I worked hard to create stories with my photos. I tried to push my composition, lighting, and capturing a moment to let the viewer in on a story. As usual there were lots of images that didn’t work, but I found some gems. One great thing about having extra family around happens to be having the time and focus to really pay attention to all those aspects of the photo. Usually, I am hoping for just enough time to get the settings correct, let alone noticing the background and composition. It was nice to take a step back from the action and observe the moments rather than trying to be both a participant and observer.

In my latest classes, the instructors talked a lot about capturing the moment before and how that can often be more visually interesting than the moment itself. So here is the moment just before they started holding hands. I think I love it more than the tons of images of them holding hands, with one exception.

Here is that exception. I just love a beautiful black and white.

Photographing the boys with Daddy is another favorite.

This little man loves turtles and tortoises. Like shove his big brother away from the glass loves them. 🙂 So this little moment between these two makes me smile.

Hope you enjoyed my practicing.

Beauty in the Mundane: Week 41: Christmas

My little family decided to travel to see our extended family for Christmas this year. Thirteen hours of driving later we made it just in time to celebrate Christmas Eve with my aunt and uncles. The weather cooperated this year and was quite mild in the Chicago area. I have never celebrated Christmas with my extended family, because we have always lived rather far away from them and Chicago isn’t the most fun in December usually. I am so glad we made it this year. Our boys had a wonderful time. They really enjoyed playing and wearing out their cousins and great aunts and uncles. My aunt hosted over 35 people for her Christmas Eve dinner. It was crazy, fun, and delicious. We were spoiled with traditional Polish foods and stuffed ourselves silly. She decorated her home so festively.

Even the doggies got into the act with jingle bell collars.

What a blessing to share quality time with family to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
